William Byrd was born and raised right here in Brevard, N.C. and specializes in teaching acoustic guitar and Bluegrass banjo. Having lived in the mountains of WNC his whole life, he has been steeped in traditional Appalachian music from a very early age. Coming from a musical family, he has always had an instrument in his hands. He decided to pursue his passion for music after highschool and attended East Tennessee State University, where he studied in the Bluegrass, Old-Time, and Roots Music department, and received his Bachelor’s degree. During his time there he was able to study under some of the most world renowned bluegrass musicians. His teachers included award winning artists such as Wyatt Rice (guitar), member of the Tony Rice unit, Alex Genova (banjo), member of Fireside Collective, and Grammy nominee, Jason Leek, former member of Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver. Having had this world class instruction, Will has gone on to play in several local bands, place in several bluegrass competitions, and even start his own luthiery business. When not working he loves to play golf, go hiking, and spend time with friends and family.
